The 10 most common questions

What is CrateHouse?

CrateHouse is a small-volume storage service based in East Perth, Western Australia, storing luggage, boxes, bags and personal belongings for people and businesses who need to store a smaller amount without renting an entire self-storage room.

How much does CrateHouse storage cost?

Your first crate is $40.40 a month, and each additional crate is $28.50 a month. Luggage and bags are priced the same way. See our pricing page for the full breakdown.

Is there a minimum storage period or lock-in contract?

CrateHouse has a one month minimum storage period, and no long-term lock-in contract after that — you can scale up, scale down, or cancel anytime.

Where is CrateHouse located?

61 Edward Street, East Perth WA 6000 — just past Claisebrook Station, a short trip from the Perth CBD.

Do I need enough belongings to fill a whole storage unit?

No. CrateHouse is built for smaller amounts, such as a few boxes or a single crate's worth of belongings, and you can add more storage later if you need it.

Can I store luggage without putting it in a crate?

Yes. Suitcases and bags can be stored as individual items at CrateHouse's East Perth facility, rather than needing to be packed into a crate.

How big is a CrateHouse crate?

A standard crate is approximately 1.0m x 0.6m x 0.5m, designed to fit through ordinary doors, corridors and apartment lifts.

Do you deliver, or can I bring things in myself?

Both. CrateHouse can deliver empty crates to you for $49.50 each way, or you can bring belongings to the East Perth facility yourself at no cost.

Can I access my belongings once they're stored?

Yes. CrateHouse provides free onsite access to stored belongings at its East Perth facility, and advance notice is preferred so the right items can be prepared.

How is CrateHouse different from a traditional self-storage unit?

Traditional self-storage means renting a fixed-size room whether you fill it or not. CrateHouse stores belongings in individual crates, or as standalone luggage items, so customers only use and pay for the amount of space they actually need.

About CrateHouse & Small Storage

Getting to know CrateHouse

CrateHouse is a small-volume storage service for people and businesses who have more to store than fits comfortably at home, but not enough to justify renting an entire traditional storage unit. See our small storage in Perth page for more.

What is small-volume storage?

Small-volume storage is designed for people who need to store more than they can comfortably keep at home, without renting a full-size traditional storage unit. Customers can start with a single crate and add more only when they need it.

What is the smallest amount of storage I can use?

Customers can start with a single storage crate, or a single approved luggage item, and scale up from there if needed.

Is CrateHouse only for long-term storage?

No — CrateHouse suits short, medium or long-term storage, subject to the one month minimum storage period.

Is there small storage near Perth CBD?

Yes. CrateHouse's East Perth facility is close to the CBD and Claisebrook Station, making it convenient for inner-city residents, apartment customers, FIFO workers and businesses.

Pricing & Payments

What it costs

See our storage pricing page for the complete breakdown, including examples for multiple crates.

How much does it cost to store two or three crates?

Two crates cost $68.90 a month in total ($40.40 for the first, plus $28.50 for the second), and three crates cost $97.40 a month. Each additional crate after the first is charged at the same $28.50 rate.

Why does each additional crate cost less?

The first crate is priced at $40.40 a month and every crate after that is $28.50 a month, so the average cost per crate falls the more storage a customer uses.

Is there a minimum storage period, and is there a lock-in contract?

CrateHouse has a one month minimum storage period. After that, there is no long-term lock-in contract — customers can reduce their storage or cancel at any time.

Can I cancel or reduce my storage?

Yes. After the one month minimum, customers can cancel their storage entirely or simply reduce the number of crates they're using, whichever suits their situation.

How does billing work, and what happens if I add another crate later?

Storage is billed monthly using the payment method linked to the customer's CrateHouse account. If a customer adds another crate later, their account and ongoing monthly amount are updated accordingly.

Do CrateHouse prices include GST?

CrateHouse's advertised customer prices are GST-inclusive unless stated otherwise.

How much is delivery, and do I have to pay for it?

Delivery and collection cost $49.50 each way. Delivery is optional — customers are welcome to bring belongings to the East Perth facility themselves at no charge.

Are there setup or service fees?

There is no separate monthly service fee. Charges are based on the storage used, plus any optional extras such as delivery.

How much does luggage storage cost?

Luggage and bags are priced the same way as crates — $40.40 a month for the first item, then $28.50 a month for each additional item.

Crates, Size & Capacity

Size and what fits

How big is a CrateHouse crate, and how much does it hold?

A standard CrateHouse crate is approximately 1.0 metre long, 0.6 metres wide and 0.5 metres high, holding a useful mix of boxes, clothing, bags and general belongings.

What can fit inside one crate?

A single crate can typically hold a mix of items such as folded clothing, boxes, books, kitchenware, sporting equipment and seasonal belongings, depending on their size and shape.

How many crates will I need, and what if I underestimate?

This depends on what's being stored — most customers start with one or two crates. If more space is needed later, an additional crate can simply be added, so there's no need to predict the exact requirement upfront.

Do CrateHouse crates fit through standard doors and apartment lifts?

CrateHouse crates are designed to fit through most ordinary residential doors, corridors and apartment lifts. See our apartment storage page for more on this.

Are my items mixed with another customer's belongings?

No. Belongings packed into a CrateHouse crate stay within that individually assigned crate, rather than being mixed with another customer's items.

Are CrateHouse crates durable?

Yes — CrateHouse crates are heavy-duty, weather-resistant and dust-resistant, and individually lockable, built for repeated transport and extended storage.
